What Are The Best Garden Furniture Materials?

The best materials for outdoor furniture
Are you ready for the outdoor season and would like to refurbish your garden, balcony or terrace? No problem, we'll show you which furniture materials for outside you can use to get your favourite outdoor spot ready for summer and which material will bring you peace of mind.
It is best to first look at how much space your garden, balcony or terrace has to offer and in which style you would like to design your outdoor area. With wooden furniture you achieve a lot of natural flair, metal looks wonderfully elegant or nostalgic, polyrattan often shows its lounging character with e.g. armchairs or sun islands, and plastic furniture brings colorful lightness into play.

1. Wood Materials.

Outdoor furniture made of wood is undoubtedly the classic in the outdoor sector. They are robust and durable, and their natural appearance blends in wonderfully with the nature of your garden, balcony or terrace.

· Teak

Teak is a medium to golden brown tropical wood, which belongs to the royal class among the high-quality garden furniture woods. This is mainly due to the fact that teak wood is one of the few woods that can be kept for a very long time without treatment and is unbeatably weather-resistant. Teak wood is naturally resistant to fungi, acids and predators such as insects, and is also particularly water-resistant. Due to all these properties of teak wood, it has established itself as a very easy-care material for outdoor furniture.

· Robinia wood

Outside furniture made of Robinia wood is light to golden brown in colour and, like outdoor furniture made of teak wood, is particularly waterproof and resistant to fungi, mould and insects. Since the garden furniture made of Robinia wood also has a high acid content, only stainless steel screws should be used during assembly to avoid unattractive discolouration.

· Eucaliptus wood

Eucalyptus wood comes naturally from Australia and is mostly grown in plantations. In fact, the eucalyptus tree is the fastest growing and most cultivated plantation tree in the world. Eucalyptus wood has a rust-brown to dark red colour and is considered a particularly decorative wood.

Eucalyptus wood is very well suited for your outdoor area, as it, like its competitors, has a high resistance to pests such as fungi and insects and scores with high weather resistance and stability. This is mainly due to the abundant resins and oils contained in the wood.

2. Metal Materials.

Metal is ideal for outdoor use - so it's no wonder that outside furniture made of metal is so popular. They impress with their usually very fine lines and are particularly resistant and durable. The robust material is also often combined with other materials, such as natural wood with shiny stainless steel or airy textile fabric with light aluminium.

· Aluminium

Aluminium is ideal for outdoor use because it is absolutely weather and corrosion resistant, i.e. rust-free. It also has the advantage that it weighs considerably less than iron, but is still equally stable. It is very easy to care for and with an appropriate powder coating, outside furniture made of aluminium remains consistently beautiful, even from a purely visual point of view.

· Stainless Steel

Outdoor furniture made of high-quality stainless steel is also weatherproof, rust-resistant and durable, and can withstand even extremely strong UV radiation. Modern, straight-line furniture legs and frames are often made of stainless steel, which can then be seen in combination with comfortable textile fabric or fine teak wood. Stainless steel also proves to be a very easy-care metal for a carefree outdoor season.

· Iron

Even with iron you have chosen a very suitable and stylish material for outdoor furniture. However, iron garden furniture always needs a high-quality powder coating to protect it from rust. As long as you have this coating, outdoor furniture made of iron is weatherproof, durable, easy to clean and very stable. For nostalgic outside furniture with vintage flair, iron is often used because of its traditional look. Even colourfully coated garden tables and chairs usually have an iron core.

3. Polyrattan.

It's hard to imagine living rooms without rattan furniture - the easy-care and robust outdoor furniture made of polyrattan has also been extremely popular for gardens, balconies and terraces for years, providing a stylish and super comfortable eye-catcher outdoors. Polyrattan is often found in lounge furniture, which directly creates a pure holiday mood.

Polyrattan is a synthetic braiding material for outdoor use that withstands wind and weather. Even with strong UV radiation they retain their colour and shape, rain even rolls off the waterproof material. In addition, polyrattan furniture scores with its special lightness, so nothing stands in the way of a quick change of location when guests arrive.

The production of Polyrattan furniture is very complex, thus in laborious manual work each individual strand from high-quality Polyethylene is wrapped around stable, but light rods from aluminum or iron.

4. Plastic Materials.

High-quality outdoor furniture made of plastic discarded its "plastic image" and is proving to be a comparatively inexpensive, lightweight and thoroughly chic solution for your outdoor area. For smaller gardens, terraces or balconies, plastic garden furniture is practical because it is usually stackable or foldable, and therefore very space-saving. In addition, plastic is considered to be a very weather-resistant and easy-care material.

· Polywood

Polywood is a plastic-based imitation wood, which is provided with natural materials such as wood fibre, cotton or coconut. If you choose outdoor furniture made of polywood, you will conjure up a wood-like look in your outdoor area. The advantage over real wood furniture is that Polywood furniture is much cheaper, more moisture resistant and requires less maintenance to look like new even years later.

· Textilene

Textilene which describes a synthetic fibre made of polyester and vinyl, and is considered to be a particularly comfortable, super light, flexible and above all hard-wearing material for outdoor furniture. Textilene is therefore also well suited for your outdoor area, as it scores with high weather resistance (UV-resistant) and durability. When it rains, the water seeps through the small holes and the material dries quickly. Textilene is usually found in combination with a lightweight aluminium frame.

· All plastic

With chairs and sofas made of polypropylene, polycarbonate or Mecalit plastic, you can bring high-quality plastic furniture home to you, but at a much lower price than high-quality wood and metal furniture. For all those who want to add a little more colour to their outdoor area, plastic furniture is just right, as they are often available in bright colours.
